This is the master bedroom of a South London terraced house.
The mirror featured is set in an old timber architrave bought in India. Its weather worn tones and exotic roots were my natural starting point.
Counterpointing its neutrality seemed a good move. I decided to make a shimmering mix of turquoise and copper on the walls, with a calming wash of buttermilk cream on the frieze and ceiling.
Because of the presence of metallic paints in the mix of colour on the walls and woodwork , the surface textures constantly change with the movement of the sun during the day different aspects catching the light at different times.
I think there is a degree of calm and stillness to this room.
